Hi, got a problem with my dell laptop dvd rom. drive does not register the cd as being there. It says to insert a disc in the drive. Device driver says it is working fine. The laptop is a model c610 lattitude and the drive is made by toshiba, I believe. I'm trying to read a nw resource cd for a new wireless card.

I tried the cd in a different drive and it is ok. I ttried other cd's in the laptop and I get the same problem. why would device mgr say it is working OK?

    Thanks:(

I'm pretty sure that your drive is sick and needs to be replaced :O(

I had the same problem with my XPS slaptop a few months ago.

The first thing I did was go to my Dell account, downloaded and reinstalled the driver for it. That worked for about 2 days.

My system is under warranty so I contacted Dell Support, told them that the drive wouldn't read or write, they had me do a couple of tests with a cd and dvd, agreed with me that the drive was sick and they sent me a new NEC DVD\CDRW drive.

    Hope this helps.
