DVD/CD-RW Drive will not play DVD's

Hello, I own an HP5190 Pavillion Laptop, and I am running Windows XP Home SP2, with a TOSHIBA ODD-DVD SD-R6252 DVD/CD-RW drive, which only plays DVD's when it feels like it. I have spent alot of time fiddling around with the services in the admin. tools for a few months now, with excellent results and I feel very confident that I know what every process is for. Although I think this may have caused the problem, and I cannot seem to rectify my mistake. Im sure that there is someone here who can help me.

 

I may be wrong, because I'm not too familiar with XP. In Win98SE you have to switch the DVD drive to DMA mode. This is done with the device manager, select the device (in this case the DVD), and click the DMA mode.

Again, I may not have it right, someone else can clarify it if I'm wrong.

 

BINGO!!! It was a little bit more complex but you were right about switching to DMA. If anyone else has this same problem (and is running XP) just use this nifty little tool to switch your device back to DMA. Bill_Marsden YOU ROCK!
P.S. I had to use it and reboot twice for it to take effect.

i use xp.But when i click on the link a page appears showing the program ando not executing it.
What can i do to run the program?
