What's the best way to dispose of DVD disks AND the info recorded on them?

    Thanks,

    TOOLS NEEDED :
Hammer approximate weight 2.1lbs & 1 Pair of Safety goggles

    INSTRUCTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS !

Smash them up with hammer whist wrapped in polythene or plastic bag to prevent shards of plastic from flying about put them into another bag i:e "garbage bag" then take to local plastic recycling company or throw into trash bin ! :-D:-D

No but seriously depending whats on them I have been slowly selling of my CDs on eBay. If you automate the label printing through PayPal and print your own postage, selling them singly on eBay is the way to go. Just don't feel that you need to sell them all at once. Make it a slow and leisurely project. I got more than £1 / $1 a CD if your CDs are in as new condition. Junk the others or sell them for a £1 or $1 . I just made one pile of CDs without scratches, and they were the ones I offered on eBay. I still have a lot to get shot of, but I have brought in around £300 for about 50 CDs so far.

Or see if there's a recycling company near where you live and take them there.

I've always just snapped them in half. ;)

Just that alone renders them useless.

Turn your head away while doing so, just in case. I've never been hurt by it but you never know.

You have shredders that handle all kinds of media, including floppy and optical disk if you want to thoroughly destroy them. That will definitely take care of the data. As for the disposal of the material itself, you would have to check to see what the waste disposal services in your area has to say about what and where to get rid of that stuff.

    Thanks everyone.

    Rustyjack:

Thanks for your detailed instructions. :-o

'If you automate the label printing through PayPal and print your own postage..." Will you please provide more details?

Sell CDs on ebay? Does this apply to DVD disks? Do you format them somehow to remove your peronal data? Does this apply (probably not) to read-only?

"£300 for about 50 CDs..." Is this correct? Aren't they les than 50c retail?

Last Q: on the right side of 'replies' is: "Not Ranked - +". please explain.

I lied. what kind of HTML am I seeing here, in the compose message frame?

    Thanks,

    Howard, SLC
