DVD drive does not play DVD

Hi,

I'm having problems playing DVD's on my computer at university.. I made a few data discs for university and some stuff I burned on to a few DVD's none of which run on my PC for some reason. the ones I burned myself with my new computer at home does not play at all (I burned the dvd's at 8x on DVD +R media).. I have no idea what's going on.. the computer I have on campus is about 5 years old- It's an advent 3209.

 

I take it you are sure the advent PC does have a DVD drive and not just a CD drive. Do your DVDs play on any other PCs?

 

Also do you have a DVD player (program) on your pc at college? You have to have one on older pcs. Did it ever play DVDs?
