DVD Drive freezes

    Whenever I try to run any data file that happens to be large off of my DVD drive, my computer freezes up stops responding. The only way to get it back to normal is to end the task and remove the disk. This happens almost all the time that I have a movie or just any large file on disk. It plays DVDs fine, and any small - medium data files perfectly, but whenever there's something big, it dies.

    Running Windows XP Pro SP2
    Any ideas ?
