I’m trying to install an E-IDE (18x DVD/+ -R, RW, DL & CD) drive and im having problems getting it to work. The computer is running Vista, and the E-IDE drive is on master; I have also tried cable select. I’m using the official driver from the Manufactures website, and the driver is the one listed as the driver in Device manger.
In device manager there is that yellow “we have a problem” triangle, and it says: “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

My assumption was the driver I was using was an XP driver, and I needed a vista upgraded one, however that information was not on the manufactures website, not could I get this information when I called. The (Indian) man I talked to on the phone told me it was a problem with my BIOS settings, im almost certain that it is not, for similar drive was using the same cables in the same slot not 3 days ago.

If you have any information on a Vista driver, or why im a noob and did something wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try going into the Device Manager, right clicking on the drive, choosing uninstall, and rebooting? This will usually fix problems like these as Windows will re-recognize the 'new' device and install the correct drivers. If this doesn't work, locate and install the newest chipset drivers for your motherboard....

NOTE: you may have to power down, unplug the power cord, disconnect both the data and power cables from the DVDRW, and reboot w/o it hooked up. Then power down and unplug again, re-attach the DVD, and fire up the PC. This can help to 'clear' a possibly faulty or corrupy driver.

I will try the chipset idea, but oddly enough (and i forget to add) windows did detect that the device was working properly once, and i restarted before using it, and after the restart the Yellow triangle came back.

It wouldn't hurt to try what I suggested in the 'NOTE:' also..... you just never know with PC's... the fact that they even do anything at all still amazes me....
