A few weeks ago i noticed my dvd drive was not working. I would put different kinds of disc in (dvd and cd) and they would not read.

It would make a bunch of sounds like it was reading when i put a disc in, and the disc symbol beside the cursor would flash. and my computer will lag a bit then it will look like this:

I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling but it still does not work.

Anyone know what the problem could be? I have a PHILIPS DVD-RAM SDVD8821

    Hi

Give this a go, while it addresses another issue it could also relate to you not being able to open up the contents of your CD/DVD disks http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532

Also with PC off unplug the drive cables from the motherboard and the dvd drive itself then re-plug them in, if possible use another IDE cable, connection may not be perfect or faulting IDE cable.
