DVD drive won't play CD's

    Hello, I have a problem I have just discovered in my fairly new laptop. The DVD drive will play read DVD's but not any type of CD's. I just noticed this today, I have been able to read CD's as recently as a week ago. The laptop is a Gateway and is less than 6 months old. Does the drive need to be replaced? Or is it a software problem?

    If it is only 6 months old, I would have it looked at under the warrentry, although it is always possible that an update to Windows, or, a program has corrupted Windows filters.If you updated a driver for anything (HP Printer is a little naughty), roll back the driver.
    If you have updated any writing software, it clould be linked.
