DVD drive

    It wont read disks.

    All drivers all installed.
    Drive is recognized in device manager/ explorer/ My Comp.
    I can control the drive through explorer /eject and the like
    use this device Enabled in properties tab message is this device is working properly
    The drive spins the disk

    It wont "Populate" in properties with a disk inserted

    Is this the laser not reading?

    Windows 7
    Acer laptop
    2 G ram
    160 g hard drive

    Any help would be great

    With the information provided I would agree. Optical drives are peanuts these days so buy another one. If it doesnt work return it.
