dvd media unrecognized

I have a khypermedia DVD + RW. I can create a dvd with software such as ulead studio 7 but if I want to play a dvd on my computer (2200 amd) it always says dvd has unrecoginzable format. I have installed Windvd 4 and supposedly that has a dvd decoder in it. Do I need a stand alone decoder or would that be the problem at all?

To the best of my knowledge, all commercial DVD's are recorded in MPEG 2 format, and you shouldn't have any problem viewing them with Windows Media Player or WinDVD. What are the problems that you are experiencing?
As an after thought, most commercial DVD's are recorded in the DVD - format, and that could be your problem. Have a Happy New Year!

 

Sorry to repost, but thought that it might help! If you have one of the earlier DVD burners and don't have a DVD ROM, that could also be a problem as most of the earlier burners were drive format specific!

 

One of the problems I have is when I put in a dvd(ones that have played before on the computer) The dvd just spins and does nothing. The software ie. windows media player or windvd just sits open. Windows media player always says to insert disk but it is already in spinning. Another is an error window pops up and says C:/windows/system32/autoexec.nt. Microsoft windows and dos can't be ran on this computer.????

 

fixed error -- C:\windows\system32\autoex.nt

still windows media player says no disk in drive.
