    What program are you using?
ImgBurn cannot format DVDs. Also, only DVD-RW, DVD+RW & DVD-RAM can be formatted.

You can burn ISOs to disk in Windows 8, just like in Windows 7. You do not need to add a program to do this.
Simply right click the ISO and select Burn to Disc. That's it. I do this all the time on my Windows 7 computers.

    Use a DVD+R.

the procedure has anyway gone ahead and i was able to create the dvd rw boot..is there an incompatibiliti to have it on dvd rw instead of simple dvd r..??

You wont have compatibility issues. But the DVD-RW can accidentally be erased, and it doesn't have the lifespan of a DVD-R.

    Yes.
CD-RW, DVD-RW & DVD+RW have fallen out of favour because of memory sticks/flash drives that have become dirt cheap. Also, you can't remove 1 file or folder - it's all or nothing, unless it's formatted, which takes a long time compared to formatting a memory stick/flash drive.
