dvd problem

dvd drive problem
Asus laptop G75V
Windows 7 home premiun
12 gb harddrive
HL-DT_ST DVDRAM GT51N optical drive burner
roxio cine player software came bundled with computer
computer does not recognize a new dvd movie when inserted in the drive (such as a a netflix or purchased dvd movie)
drive works fine for everything else......cd's, software cd's and dvd's and copied cd's and movie dvd's
don't know where to start.

Have you tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116 ? this involves the upper and lower filters. Just a thought.

Have you tried updating the driver for your DVD? Google the following:

Acer G75V download drivers

Follow the instructions on the Acer site to find the downloads for your PC. Download and install the latest driver for the DVD.

I wonder if the movies are in a codec that you somehow don't have on the PC?

Ran across this one time on an HP media PC where the manufacturer simply did not update the driver for the DVD player/burner after some improvement/change was made to the blu-ray DVD format. The PC owner could not play the new type of blu-ray DVDs (previous blu-ray ones were supported) and was completely stuck. Not sure it was ever resolved. That was a bad situation for sure, considering the PC was sold as one that supports blu-ray media.

 

I'll give those a try and let you know happens. tried updating driver before thru windows, but said software was already up to date. be a day or two but I'll let you know what goes. thanks for the suggestions
