what is the best way to store your dvd collection?

I have tried to put them in BIG DVD book, but I swear they get scratched as I put them in the little sleeves.
I am thinking 2 options, the 1st being easy, the 2nd harder, but likely a TON better.
    1. Get jewel cases for my 100+ DVDs and then get a CD wall mount or something to store them in and have a list so I know what I have.

2 burn them via a computer program to a HD, this way I can save them on an external harddrive and cut out all the warnings and previous/etc., then I'd put the DVD into the black case, never to be used again and hook up this external harddrive to my tivo/dvr and be able to access my movies as I would any show I would watch..

I am tired of trying to watch movies and:
deal with all the crap it takes to load it up and watch it(ok about 4-6 minutes)
not being to watch it cause it's scratched and/or pauses and misplays

thoughts?(can I get someone to do #2 for me?)

An external HDD sized between 500 GB and 1 TB should do the trick of storing DVD quality video for 100+ movies. As for # 2 http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm . Also available here @majorgeeks:major

so I have a few DVDs that when I play them on my dvd player, they just pause...then play,
    or
    skip a few words
    or
dont play and just spin in the DVD player and try to work.

I have a few movies, and a few series, family guy, where they are a few shows on one dvd, so if I use the linked program, I'll be able to do what exactly? strip it all down to just the shows on the dvd? what about closed captioning? Will I still have that option?

where do you think is the best place to get a TB drive from? Sam's club? online or best buy?
how long will this take to do per movie?

LOL can I just ship the drive to you, and the DVDs and pay you to do it?

finally, I have a series 2 tivo, I know someone who has a TB drive hooked to their tivo to give it extra memory, but its a TiVo HD DVR, so it won't matter what tivo I have? it'll always work?
    thanks
