    I recorded a DVD-R with Nero.

At first I did it as Multisession (...which I don’t really understand what this is.... :) )

    Then as No Multisession.

When I tried to copy all the DVD data into the hard disk to check if I copied OK, it started to copy but it stopped when it reached 4 GB. My DVD-R disk is TDK 2.4x 8.5 GB Double layer, data video. My recorder in new – September 2005.

I copied the mp3s as data. I had no problems with the same procedure in the past, but I don’t remember if I did it as a Multisession or no.

The mp3s have names like *****.****.mp3 etc. - not so valid names to copy, but some days ago I had no problems as I said.

This happened in two discs. WHY?

HOW SHOULD I COPY THEM ? AS A MULTISESSION OR NO ? WHAT IS THIS ?

    Thanks, guys :)

A "Multisession" disk is a disk that isn't finalized.
Meaning that if you still have room on the disk...
Having it as Multisession disk allows you to add more data to it at a later time.

    "*****.****.mp3"...
This looks like your trying to add a file with 2 extensions.
If so... that wouldn't be considered a valid file name.
If your trying to define the band and then the song name...
****** - *******.mp3 would be the proper format.

Yes, but when I play that mp3 I can actually play it on realplayer !

....and all the rest of files that could not be copied can play....

Why cant I copy the rest 4 GB of the DVD-R ???

I get what you mean with the extra extention...
But Windows doesn't see it as a proper file format.
So unfortunatly it will be hit and miss for you in that regard.

To help with the rest it would be helpful if you were to let us know what Windows type your using.
The partition type if you can. :)

Normally that extra dot shouldn't be a problem, i use it all the time (i have files with over 5 dots in them). How exactly did you burn that dvd? Did you started it as a multisession, burn mp3's to it, then selected 'no multisession' and again burn mp3's? If you continue to burn on a multisession disk you should choose 'continue multisession disk'. This may cause only part of the dvd to be read by windows.

i always avoid multisession but you can burn a dvd either way, it just depends on what plans you have for the dvd. if you are only going to use 1gig of the disk and think that's a waste then burn it as multisession so you can add more to it later on down the road. if you're making backups of your mp3s or whatever then i would suggest buying a pack of dvd r\w's. that way you can wipe them when your done and reuse them. like i said though you can burn them either way just remember what erikske said about 'continue multisession disk' so you don't mess it up. hope this helps.

    Please guys, tell me something:

If I cannot copy all the DVD-R 8 GB due to the problem I described here,
how can I save it to my hard disk ?

I found a solution and tell me if it will work:
I will import it to itunes of realplayer and then,
I will save it there !

Will I have all my data (mp3s) in this way ???

    So afterwards I CAN BURN A DVD-R AGAIN !!! ????

Normally if windows does not see the files, programs like itunes won't see them either. Maybe there's a tool out there that can save the lost session, but i don't know any.

But when I click on the DVD the other 4 GB, realplayer can play these music files !

    Weird...
If that's the case, then you should indeed be able to copy them to your computer and burn another DVD.

I am not sure this is relevant but is this similar to an IPOD and you need to select "show hidden files" from windows Explorer Tools Folder Options View ? Just a thought.

As I read this there are two things that keep poping up in my head, (Gotta get a popup blocker to stop that!) First since your using Nero are you setting it for the right size? The little box in the right hand bottom corner has the size. 2nd you told us about your disk that your using are you sure your drive will burn double layer? I use nero and I have a double layer burner, and never had any problems at all, but I have gotten lazy in my old age and have gotten to where I use nero express and sometimes it gets me because it uses either the default settings or the last settings I used.
