DVD-rom will not read DVD's!

My DVD-rom will not read DVD's anymore. I have tried to download some driver updates, but none can be found. Any other suggestions to fix this problem. It just does not read the DVD at all and claims there is not one in the drive when I insert one.

 

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm hoping someone will have an answer. Mine is a Lite-On DVD-RW dual layer. Running XpPro SP2

 

Have you tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling the Rom then reboot and let XP allocate a driver, it works sometimes.

 

i understand how to unistall it and all. but will XP definately sort out by allocating the driver because i dont want to uninstall it and never be able to use the drive again.?

 

XP will have no trouble loading the driver. You don't need third party drivers.

Are you getting any error messages?

 

I uninstalled mine and let windows reinstall the drivers but it still doesn't work. I think my xp install is corrupted.

 

try to update the firmware not the drivers. You should be able to find the firmware at the manufatures website.
