    Have installed a new DVD-RW. it will not read dvds, it has been installed and reconised by pc but will not read even cds????

    No good!!
    Its like its installed properly but wont read any discs!
    There is no fault when in device manager!

    Do you have a bootable CD or DVD disk ( like a Windows disk or a Linux Live CD) around? If so make sure your computer has the CD/DVD drive listed in the boot order (in the BIOS) and try booting up with a CD. If it won't read the disk I'd say you may have a bad drive. Laser could be bad or got knocked out of alignment.
