DVD Sound problem

Hello. I just recently got a new video card that I successfully upgraded my system with. Before I installed it, I removed the old drivers by way of a program attached with ATI that removes all ATI components on my system. I then installed my new video card and its drivers. However, when I went to play a DVD, I cannot get any sound. I have been working this for some time now and I have no idea what the problem is. I updated my audio driver and updated Windows Media player to no avail. It plays cd's with no problems and all other sound on the computer/internet works fine. The DVD's play fine too- just no sound. I am wondering if it may have to do with getting rid of all the ATI components on my system since there was some sort of media center on it. Something called DVDDec (dvd decoder???) was removed in the process. If so, this was from the old ATI install cd. I tried to reinstall that, but it wouldn't let me saying that the hardware was wrong, or something to that effect, due to a different video card. I would appreciate any input you may have on this and if it is what I suspect, how would I go about solving that problem. Also, if possible, I would appreciate a theoretical explanation as to what is going on. I am an ever-evolving system builder who is looking to learn all he can. Any input is much appreciated.

 

Hmmm sounds like the codecs for your dvd player were wiped when you changed video cards...
you could try installing a codec pack like Klite here at MG

That is most likely your problem as you say you have no other sound issues...
