DVD video player problem

A couple weeks ago I wanted to copy some home DVD's so I visited a reputable forum to see what was suggested. The site recommended both CDBurnerXP by Canneverbe (most recommended) from CDBurnerXP.se and DeepBurner by Astonsoft from www.deepburner.com.

The site links were given there so I clicked on both and went to both sites to download these programs to my desktop. Both sites were rated GREEN by WOT so this added some assurance and I assumed that they might be safe. Still, I uploaded these 2 programs from my desktop to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ to scan and double check; they came back clean. I then installed and tried running both programs. I later decided to just use the CDBurnerXP to copy one DVD which seemed to copy okay and viewed fine.

Several days later while watching the original DVD (which should be write protected) using my PowerDVD (DELL) program, I watched the program. I tried to go to a section at the end by sliding the bar instead of fast-forwarding with the button. Then I paused it and tried to capture a image which I pasted into the paint program to save. Somehow the DVD or player got corrupted from doing this or it may have been corrupted due to malware from the download software that may have affected various system processes.

I have just been to the malware removal forum and it does not look like I got malware from this program...although that is not certain.

Somehow, it seems like some process in the video player routine got corrupted as this certain section of the DVD video seems to get stuck, slow down, show boxes, audio sows/garbles, etc. All other parts of the original DVD play okay.

I believe that the original DVD is write-protected. It works fine in all sections and plays fine in a DVD player hooked to my TV; it just shows corruption when played on my computer.

The DVD that was copied can play in my computer ONLY but gets garbled at the section in which I tried to capture a picture (like the original DVD). It does not play on my TV with the DVD player.

Both DVD's can play on PowerDVD and the Windows Media Player v.11 but show corruption at the concerned area.

I would appreciate any help in trying to find out if any routine may have been corrupted on my computer, if this is the problem. This seems to be largely a problem with the computer since the original DVD (at least) plays OK on the TV. The other DVD may not have copied well or it may have been in a setting such that it would only play on a computer.

I realize that the computer somehow remembers where DVD play leaves off and this could be part of the problem. I tried re-installing the PowerDVD program completely but this did not resolve the problem.

I appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue.
