Does anyone know how to convert DVD formatted video to CD format of sorts? The issue is I just want to drag the DVD icon into a prgram and it converst without having to cut and paste, blah blah woof woof. When I use AnyVideoConverter, I have to select the parts of a DVD as it is broken up into like three parts. I just need to drag and walk away if such a program exists. Thanks

Essentially what you need is a DVD to VCD (or SVCD or KVCD) converter; VCD's (Video CD's) are MPEG2 files (or is it MPEG1 :confused I know it's one or the other). Just out of curiousity: what are you trying to do with the DVD files? Why convert 'em and put 'em on a CD? I do lots of DVD/video/movie type of stuff and if I have a better idea of what you're trying to do, I can be of much more help and maybe suggest a program or 2 or 3. So, please post some more details and I (we) will try to help ;)

What I am trying to do is kind of simple. The computers at work do not have the ability to view DVDs but they can view CDs (the admin person does not want to add the ability for fear of watching movies on the job I guess. I think it's more of a control issue). We video'd their practice presentations but no one can see them except for my computer. hehehe. Any help you can send my way would be great!

OK! So what you need is a program that will convert DVD movies to DivX/XVid (.AVI), then you can play the resulting file on a PC using Windows Media Player (or any other media player). Try SUPER:

It will convert the VOB files to AVI's. Personally, I haven't used SUPER, so I can't be alot of help with it. I'm pretty sure you'll have to 'rip' the DVD to your hard first, using something like DVD Shrink or DVDFab, then convert the ripped files with SUPER. Here's links to DVDShrink and DVDFab:

These are all free programs. If you don't mind paying for software, I'd highly recommend WinAVI. It will convert to and from AVI, DVD, RM, and many other formats (if the codecs are installed). It's very easy to use, and it's FAST! Check it out: http://www.winavi.com/ For tons of info about all things DVD/media related, check out http://www.afterdawn.com/ and also http://www.videohelp.com/ Both of these sites are devoted to multimedia (mainly video/DVD stuff) information and the sites are loaded with tips, downloads, guides, forums, you-name-it. These sites have taught me many, many things and I really recommend doing some research before you embark on your movie project. It'll go much smoother and easier if you read a bit about what you need to do first.... good luck! Let us know how it goes ;)
