DVDRW　Wont Boot With SATA

Okay so I have got a DVDRW drive on an IDE channel and a SATA HDD. No matter how I set up the drives, i.e. change the IDE channel, boot sequence in BIOS etc. the DVDRW just will not boot. What am I missing? i have got an MSI PM8PM-V　with a 3.2 Celeron. Any help appreciated. Sorry about the previous character problems, I am using a Chinese character set on one machine.

 

When you set up in the Bios for choose boot devise- cd/dvd, hard drive, do you press f10, then Y , then enter - this is the normal way to save to cmos, so that it will start from cd/dvd.

 

Yup, the boot sequence is DVDRW then HDD. All saved. But still nothing

 

I assume that you have all drives/dvd drive recognised in the Bios - if not , set to autodetect , on all channels.
Is the light on the dvd drive, all the time ?- if so, you may have turn the IDE cable over.- coloured line on cable towards plastic 4 pin power input plug.
Try dvd drive in another computer, if you ,or, have a freind has one.

 

Right so the reason my DVDRW does not boot up is that it is interrupted by a "Floppy Disk Fail 40" warning. I have no floppy and this is a new build which has never had a floppy so why do you think this message is screwing up the boot sequence?

 

Okay problem solved. Just had to turn the floppy to disabled in BIOS... DOH. Strange though that changing the boot order did not remove the floppy from the picture, I mean surely if it is third boot device it should have checked CDROM and HDD before it gets to checking the Floppy. C'est le vie.
