Is there a disc less DVR out there? ( Other than what the cable company provides -- Since I don't do cable).

I used to have a Replay DVR, Tim. It looks like it's part of direct TV now though on quick search. I may even be able to get one for you if you want to pay for shipping. I think I gave mine to my sister, but she may have it around and I swear I just saw my mom and dad's somewhere. None of us can use them anymore because we have cable.

I'll check around and see what I can find as far as the boxes go. You might want to see if they are still usable. If I remember correctly, you needed an account. It's been so long that I forget that too.

If you want to do a little research and see if it would work for you, let me know what you find out.

Well, seeing all the ads for "the hopper" from dish>? I thought there must me a recording machine that can take info off the air just like my old DVR. My old one is no longer recognizing disc which is why I am curious about a disk less machine. Should be something out there, yes?

Should be, I would think. Do you require a set top box?

I had this before cable required a set top box to run. I don't know how non-cable works or how these DVRs work if you do require a box.

    Tim,

You always have the option of installing a TV tuner card in a PC (or a USB tuner on a notebook PC). Most come with a software package that allows you to schedule recordings. Some of the higher-end cards will let you record two shows at once.

This option works by itself for over-the-air (antenna) signals and unscrambled (very basic) cable channels only. If you want to record cable or satellite, most newer receivers can be programmed to turn on and tune into a specific channel at a given time. Using the above setup, you'd set the TV tuner card software to record off the "aux" input.

The only stand alone DVR I could find is $400.

    Hope this helps. :)

Well, don't most people just use a recorder with a H.D.D. in it - then transfer the T.V. show to an external H.D.D. via USB, or am I missing something?:confused Either that, or simply plug your thumb-drive/H.D.D. into the USB port, if your T.V. has one, that is.
My area doesn't do cable, either - so I'm stuck with "satell-shite". LOL

Tim, Don't know if the USA does Humax devices but they are what I use here in UK and will record TV to HDD.

Don't know how they interact with your TV stations though, but they wouldn't sell them in the USA if they did not work.

I think what you linked me to, David is probably what I am looking for. A DVR that doesn't use a disc and has a tuner installed. I'm tired of using disc's as my DVR now is not recognizing most of the blank disc's I put in it. Only thing is that they don't give much info on that link, Dave.

    Hey Tim
I use a Dvico M 6500 Media Player with a TVix dual channel HD Tuner card inside. Overall I have been very happy with it although while playing 1080p bluray movies it does get a bit hot and the remote isn't very intuitive but you get used it LOL
This is now probably a superceded model with the TVix PVR R-330 the current pick as the tuner is already included inside the unit and not an optional extra like on mine.
Mine has a 1.5Tb internal drive and a 3Tb external USB drive for recording plus it is also is connected to my 21Tb NAS and also another 14Tb game server NAS. It works fine in Australia on free to air and digital channels. I don't have cable either. BTW the main reason I bought this brand was because it was the first player on the Australian market to support flac files.
    Hope this helps :)
