E-Machine SP 2 help

I have a friend who has an E machine. He installed SP2 about a month ago and his PC has crashed every week after that. When it does he has to reload the software from his recovery CD. After he goes out and gets SP2 it crashes soon after that. When it crashes and he boots up from a floppy he can'y see his C drive. He has run Scandisk and it reports his HD is fine. Whenever his System crashes the error he gets is that his System32 file is corrupt or not found. Has anyone else had a problem with SP2? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

 

Gonna have to be more specific about the crashes.

What was the exact error?

 

He said the error was System32 file not found. He said that the PC would not power down on its own. it would lock up on the power down process. he would then manually shut the system down and then when it restarts it will not even go into safe mode it brings up the error od Bad or missing System32 file. I'll try to get more info from him.

 

is he overclocking by chance?

Because, system32 is not a file, but a folder.

 

No he isnt overclocking. He just uses this for work and stuff from home.

 

Have you tried contacting emachines?

 

I have a emachine #6809 lap top. after installing SP2 it locks up and won't power down. microsoft said to uninstall SP2 untill emachines makes a fix. but E say's it's SP2 problem.I've read it's the DVD driver? could be AMD 64?
if anyone else had this problem would like to know if you were able to fix it?
