    Hi all.

I am considering this set up as my next pc build.

CPU- Intel Core 2 Dou E6400
    Mobo-Asus P5N32-E SLI
    Memory - 2gb Corsair Twin XMS2 PC6400 800mhz DDR2
    Graphics card - ATI Sapphire 256mb X1950XT

My question is this...Are there various types of the E6400 CPU on the market?
Like there used to be with the AMD athlons (ie barton and palmino cores)
Are some better than others to overclock?

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Also could you share your opinions on my choice of components for this build?
And maybe give me some starting point for my forthcoming overclock?

    Thanks all.

Hi there, I have a e6400, in the system that I have just built for myself, and am going through the clocking boards, and apparently , when I am brave enough they can be clocked from the 2.13 to 3.3 ghz. (8x420fsb), upping voltage 1/2 volt. -BUT NOT JUST LIKE THAT -
I am currently going around trying to find out as much as I can before I try to blow it.
Corsair memory was used, upping voltage a little.
I will come back with some url's

Graphics card looks good, but in a review, it was recommended to have a good psu with 30A or more on the +12V line.
Also the recommendation was to use the ATITool to change the fan settings to run at 100% when above 70 degrees, and the card is appently as wide as some motherboards, so look out for space where you might have your hard drive sticking out - I have had this on enormous agp graphics card, so check for space in the graphocs card area.

    Glad to help.
Just be very careful when overclocking, as you know, you do so at your own risk, - you know how the saying goes about leading the horse to water- it is up to you if you drink.
If you fry something, it becomes an expensive hobby. The responsability is entirely yours, but take it in very, very small steps, and if you do not know about restting in case of non start, after clocking, read more first.

The Allendale and Conroe cores are the same core for all intents and purposes. The difference is that Allendale's have 2MB L2 cache, while Conroes have 4MB L2 cache. Otherwise they are the same thing.

    Yes in
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2#Allendale
You can read the general rundown on conroe, with half L2 disabled, being Allendale,s.
The Intel site, actually shows 2 versions of E6400, SL9S9, and, SL9T9, but
it seems the sl9s9 is the general release, and the only difference that I can see is that this one has a better voltage range (lower start, idle level,- power saving )- They have same OEM Number.
    Core Voltage:--S19S9---0.850V-1.3525V-
    AND -SL9T9-----1.225V-1.325V
SO WORTH CHECKING WHEN BUYING wetherS19S9, OR SLT9T9, but it seems that you will get S19S9.:)
