I wouldn't go shopping on "Black Friday" for any reason. Consumer insanity reigns.

Two or three years ago, me and my buddy Dylan just happened to be up when my friend called and asked if we wanted to go with him so he could snag a computer for super cheap. Dylan and I had nothing better to do, so we figured "what the hey?" At 5 in the morning, we all met up and headed off to the store (which one, I'm not sure of). When we got there, it was like Burt Reynolds was in town or something. Everyone and their grandmothers were pawing and scratching at the door like puppies begging for food...Some might have even been whimpering. ;)

Anyway, when the doors burst open, everyone went freakin' psycho. I'd never seen people so hell-bent on spending money before...Unless you count my ex with MY money. ;) People were running to and fro with no real agendas. Since I was there with no plans to buy anything, I just hung around and observed everything. It was that day I learned two "-isms" that are, ultimately, a degradation to society: Capitalism, and Materialism.

This wasn't thanksgiving,(we don't have Black Friday up here) But several years ago my wife sent me to Kmart for a special on sheets or something. There was a huge number of mostly women gatherted around. The staff brought out a bunch in carts and the horde parted to let them through. As the staff backed out I ducked in and found myself right in front. As I reached for my sheets, I was hit from behind. I went down on my knees and could not get back up. Bruised and battered, I crawled through a mass of stampeding legs towards the daylight. Once on my feet again, I noticed an older guy grinning at me. "You're not ready for that yet son" he said.

It's tradition in my fam to go out. We left at 3 am this morning to stand in line at Best Buy as well as Staples and Office Max (we sent people out there to get stuff for us!). Geeks? Yeah, but oh well.

I got a couple 160 GB hard drives, a cheap MP3 player from BB, aDVD burner, about 200 DVD Rs, couple flash drives, a nice hp scanner, a TV, a bunch of CD-Rs and slim jewel cases, some additions for my video editing stuff....and well, it just goes on.

I saved quite a bit of money with all the rebates though. Tried to get a comp for my fam (who just needs a basic one) but of course they gave the last ticket out at BB to the person right in front of me! Haha, oh well. It was craziness though. I just laughed at people as they ran past me and nearly pushed me into displays or cut my ankles off by ramming into them with their shopping carts. Argh.

But overall it was a pretty good day and I got everything I wanted....now I'm really tired...:D

I was at Staples at 6 AM after coffee nearby. Out of the store at 7 to Sears, and the mall, then Kmart, finishing at Walgreens to hear my wife say she wanted to go back to Staples near 6 PM.

This is the first year we have done all our shopping in one day.
