EASEUS To do Backup

I DL EASEUS To do back up from MG, Performed a full back up of my C: as well as my External HD. Performed these tasks seperately. C: took about 2 hours and the external took about 5 hours to perform the full back up. Now I did not see any option where I can perform differential backups. I would like not to have to perform 7 hours worth of backups each time.
Can anyone recommend a good back up program that will allow the ability to perform differential or incremental backups.
    Thanks in advance.

Your backup is taking such a ridiculous time because you are backing up stuff each time that would be better kept off the OS partition and backed up with a different program. If you move all your personal stuff to a different drive/partition then Easeus will backup your system partition in under half an hour. As it is, if you had to restore an image you would also revert all your personal stuff to the date of the image - madness.

Diffs and Incs are risky imo. If one file in the chain gets even one corrupt byte you lose the lot. Stick to full backups but think about the way your stuff is organised.

Why are you backing up your external btw? Usually you back up to an external, not from it.

Well knowing nothing is fool proof, I save ALL of my important data to the external leaving pretty much software on the C:
If the external bites the dust (which they have been known to do) I would not have a backup copy of that data. If you can provide me with a better method for saving the data from the external HD, I would be most appreciative. :)

I am using an additional external 250GB HD that I am using ONLY for backing up the PC and the external. No other data goes on this external.

Also, if you have a good suggestion on how to organize that would also be great. I have all my music in a folder called "My Music", Computer geek stuff in it's own folder etc etc (all in which is on the external HD I mentioned in my first post)

Sounds as if you have already organised your comp well - system and programs on C, data somewhere else. From the extended backup time I assumed you were doing what most ppl seem to do - keeping everything on C. Sorry :-o

Mind if I ask just how big your system partition is - total and used? My 50GB Win 7 partition is about 21GB used and completes a full backup in about 15 min to an eSATA using Acronis True Image, which is a heck of a lot faster than Easeus. It also does diffs and incs.

You do really have to have your regular (weekly) backups but 2hrs is not practical. Things you could do include -

    - Fitting a second internal hard drive. Thiis may be the best solution.

    - Depending on the size of your internal drive, partition it and save your personal stuff there. Then backing that up would be much quicker

    - Get Acronis. It's about twice as fast as Easeus.

    - See if there is more you can do to slim down C

Earthling, thanks for the reply. I will get you the information about the size of the partition. I do most of my posting from work so I don't have my personel laptop with me, just my work laptop and the desk top. I guess you would say the $49.99 price tag for Acronis True Image is worth the money??

Well yes, I would certainly, but everyone has their favorite way of doing things and others here may say differently. However having used Acronis for years, and never having had a failed backup with it, and certainly finding it a lot faster than others I have tried, such as Macrium Reflect and Easeus Todo, I have come to look upon it as my ultimate safeguard against almost any imaginable disaster overtaking my comp.

Having said all that, for the last few months I have been using another paid for program as first line of defence. I'm not going to post a link because I don't want to be accused again of advertising when I'm not, but Wondershare Time Shuttle does full system drive backups in about five seconds and restores in 20 seconds plus a reboot. It isn't a replacement for an imaging program as it cannot cover hardware failures, but in every other situation where I have wanted to revert to an earlier state it has done so in just a minute or two and without a single failure of any description. I still take Acronis images, but less frequently now and have not needed to do any restores at all with it.

I'll leave you to find it and make your own mind up about it, but for me it has become indispensable.

Earthling, you're saying that you're using 2 system restore software at the same time?

If so, I used to do the same and got in lot's of troubles. I then switched to the following combo:
    1. Personal Backup to do daily differential backups of my non OS drives
    2. TrueCrypt to encrypt data in case I got the laptop stolen
    3. Rollback Rx for system restore in case of emergecy

Seems to work just fine for me..

Hi brucesmiths - the only problem with your setup is you don't have any way of recovering your OS in the event of a hardware failure, as you are not imaging your OS. I understand your warning about using Rollback or Wondershare in parallel with an imaging program and agree that it does have the potential to cause mayhem. Haven't used Rollback myself, only looked at the trial version, but in Wondershare's case if you keep its 'running rules' in mind you shouldn't have problems. Since I posted the above I have done several Acronis OS restores while Wondershare was installed and the only effect has been to disable Wondershare.

Wondershare and Rollback seem to be the same beast under the hood and Wondershare seems to have disappeared of late so I rather suspect they were infringing Rollback's licence rights. Just a hunch. I still think it's the greatest thing since - well, you know ;)

    I am, yes
My advice is don't waste your time. It is very basic and very slow. But better than nothing at all certainly.

well, I don't care about losing the OS in the event of a hard drive crash. I will have to replace it anyways :)

You are missing the point - an image can be restored to a new or different hard drive. But if you don't mind spending two or three days getting everything back the way it used to be then fine rolleyes

    Hi ichase.

I've just begun using ToDo Backup and also found it confusing that Incremental or Differential backup did not seem to be available.

You Can do Incremental backups with Easeus ToDo Backup, but only from a previous full File backup. Incremental is not available for disk or partition backup image.

As Earthling suggested, a second internal hard drive will be a bit faster than read/write to an external.
Just make sure your power supply is sufficient for the added demand.

Also, as Earthling mentioned, the disk or partition images can be use for catastrophic recovery after a hard drive failure.

To prepare for this, you also need to create the Easeus recovery boot CD.
The boot from that CD, on my machine, was pretty slow, but once it fully loads
it provides the option to Restore a drive / partition image.
No other options are available from the Boot CD with ToDo Backup Free edition.
