Got a new PC and want to transfer my files form the old one to the new. Do I need two monitors to make the transfer using the cable method?

Not at all. If you know the IP address of the old computer you can log into it, set up sharing for the files you want to copy, transfer the monitor to the new PC, and copy the files.

I am a little better with hardware than software so I pull the old drive put it in the new machine for a while. For me this is much easier than configuring software and there are no permissions / passwords / IP / account problems.
