Easybcd Problem.

I installed EasyBCD in Windows 7 but it doesn't run.
I then re-installed it as Administrator, restarted, and tried to run it as Administrator - it doesn't open. And there's no dialogue box with an error message.

I installed the same version in Windows XP and it opens without a problem.

    Any idea what's going on?

Are you dual booting XP and 7? (Note: I never used EasyBCD - I partitioned and used Win 7's inbuilt to dual boot).

I do run a dual boot with Windows XP and 7. I did it the old-fashioned way - installed WinXP, partitioned, and installed Win7. No problem.
But, I'm trying to help another member and checked to see if EasyBCD can be installed without an internet connection. It did but doesn't open and I'm curious as to what the problem is.

I would recommend on using a Flash drive option when trying to run this.

I use it installed on two systems, not for dual booting but for booting to bootable ISOs. Never had any issues with it. Suspect it must be being caused by installing it without a connection.

I'm going out but I did see issues with running EasyBCD from Win 7 when dual booting with XP. I'll be out for 3 or 4 hours. When I come back I'll see if I can find the pages I looked over yesterday.

EasyBCD was installed with an internet connection in Windows 7 but is doesn't open.
In Windows XP it was installed without an internet connection and it does open.

In a dual boot situation you install EasyBCD in one of the two systems, not in both.

I install EasyBCD in Windows 7 (with an internet connection) - it doesn't open.
Then I installed EasyBCD in Windows XP (without an internet connection) - it does open.

Why are you attempting to install in both systems? It's unnecessary

I installed in Windows XP to see if the program opens.

    I don't even need EasyBCD.
Edit: When I re-installed EsayBCD as Administrator it was with an internet connection.

As you have said, it does open, so is there still an issue here simply because it won't open in Win 7 when you have no need for it anyway?

I would still like to know why it doesn't open.

So would I I guess. I've been looking at old backups to see if I could recreate your situation but don't have any XP backups at all now. I guess I'm amazed EasyBCD works at all in XP as BCD didn't exist then.

It's working in WinXP, but not in Win7!

And I fixed it thanks to Speccy showing me this.

And WebSite X5 and Jumplist Editor also not starting.
Searching Piriform's forum I found it might be related to WMI which I couldn't start.

I used Tweaking.com - Windows Repair and selected only WMI and the problem is fixed.

I was suspecting it was the XP/7 dual boot that was preventing it from running in 7. Amazing how often Tweaking.com resolves these obscure issues.

And all the time it was the WMI service not running that was the culprit.
All 4 programs (EasyBCD, WebSite X5, Jumplist Editor & Speccy) are now running.

And now I can uninstall EasyBCD... :p

    Yes, Tweaking.com - Windows Repair is a one-of-a-kind program.
FYI I forgot to run it in Safe Mode and yet it repaired the WMI service!
