Easyshare CX6330 Driver won't install

I can't install the driver for my Kodak Easyshare CX6330 camera - a shame, because I have some great pictures in the camera's internal memory which I wouldn't be able to get out using the card reader. It's my own fault. I didn't have a manual (it took an evening and half the night to find one to download), and the first thing I noticed in the manual was, "Do not connect the camera to the computer before you install the drivers." Well, I DID connect the camera to the computer before I tried to install the drivers the first time, because I didn't know any better, but could someone help anyway? (I've read the other threads about Easyshare but they don't address this problem.)

At first, before I closed out of Norton, I got the error message 20x100x404x; after closing out of Norton, I have been getting 20x101x0x. Makes little difference which error message I get as long as I can't install it.:cry

    Please help??? Thanks!!

    Hi

What Windows version are you using?

Try uninstalling the Kodak driver if its in Add/Remove or in Device Manager, then run CCleaner and its Cleaner and Registry scans, run the registry one until nothing is shown for removal, then reboot and install as per instructions from the manual and for that error message then try this HERE from the Kodak FAQ, my addition is try downloading the driver from another PC and use USB pen or CD to transfer it to this one, just incase something else is blocking the download and a Firewall and AV can do this at times.

But do make sure you get the correct driver for your version of Windows.

Thanks! I am running Windows 98SE - the best OS ever made. ;) And the driver is the correct one for 98SE. I've thought of simply restoring the registry to yesterday (Jan. 17) morning, but there might be a problem with that because I created a new .pst file on the night of Jan. 16 - 17, and don't know how much of it was after midnight. (I'd been getting error 0x80040403 in Outlook; showed as if email were coming in but none did; created the new .pst file as directed by Microsoft Knowledge Base.) So I am not sure whether restoring the registry would goof up my repair of Outlook!

I could save a copy of the current registry, then try restoring it - so I could put it back if needed. This could possibly fix the problem without messing up the Outlook fix, if I created that file before midnight!

Would you recommend trying this (it's simpler!) before trying the fixes you recommended? If not, I will go straight to yours...

    Thanks again!

By the way, the driver doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs. I didn't get that far. The first time I tried it (plugged in the camera, got the wizard to find drivers for new hardware), it didn't recognize the driver, and after that it stopped while installing, gave the error message I quoted in my first post, and referred me to the Kodak website, which has no help whatsoever - not even any results when I search on the error message.

It's too bad I didn't have the manual, but many websites promise a manual to download, take you through pages and pages of ads, and there is no manual at the end of the quest. I finally got it through Retrevo, and found to my horror that I shouldn't have plugged in the camera!

I checked, and that .pst file was created around 10:30 PM on Jan. 16, so I won't lose it if I restore the registry to the first reboot on Jan. 17. I might lost some configurations in Outlook, but can easily redo them.

By the way, I tried using two different copies of the driver, and one was downloaded on another PC and put on CD. No dice with either of them, although Norton did seem to be blocking the installation since I got a different error message after closing out of it.

I'l download those cleaners you recommended; try them first; restore the registry if it still won't install. How I want to get those beautiful pics on my computer!

    Thanks again!

Hi again - I just downloaded CCleaner and have a question before using it. I have Office, and there are some things I haven't enabled yet, while appear in the registry although they aren't yet in use. Will CCleaner remove them and prevent me from using them when the time comes? I know some registry cleaners will do that...

    Thanks again, and blessings!

Well, well! I restored the registry to before I'd plugged in the camera (what an idiot - I even told my brother to install his software before he plugged his camera in!), but it did no good - I still can't install the driver, and got error code 20x100x404x again - whatever that means. However, I've noticed that during the attempt to install it, it triggers dial-up connection. I wonder if all the needed files are IN the download! Maybe it's trying to connect to Kodak to retrieve something that isn't there any more.

(Of course, I closed out of Norton and Spybot resident before starting the installation - also, started from a clean reboot.)

The only good news is that it didn't disturb my Outlook repair or even settings. But I still can't install the camera.

Will wait to use CCleaner until I learn whether this would remove anything I will need to enable later in Office.

    Blessings!

I looked in the registry, using regedit, and there is something Kodak under Programs - although I have never used Kodak software or owned another Kodak digital camera. It's under local machine, software, Kodak, IniFileMapping, kpcms.ini, under which there are folders API, ICC Profiles, KCP, and KEPS Precision. However, it is always possible that my Canon or other photo software "borrowed" something from Kodak. Does anyone know?

There is also a Kodak file under "Current User."

Of course, I won't delete anything from the registry without being told to do so, but someone who really, really knows what s/he is doing. I found nothing Kodak in Program Files using Windows Explorer.

    Blessings!
