How many of us have tried to edit a registry entry and had that all too familiar and equally annoying message of error deleting key.

What I used to do is right click the key, go to permissions, take ownership, give myself permission to edit it, ad nauseum.
But, there is a better way.

    First, visit here. http://live.sysinternals.com/

I actually have this mapped to a drive letter, because I use it often.

Then locate an app called psexec. Copy it to a folder on your computer.

Then open a cmd.exe window (with Vista you need admin rights on the console window), and navigate to that directory and run this command: psexec -s -i regedit.

Regedit will open. You now have full control over any regsitry entry. Use at your own risk!

If this gets enough attention, maybe I can get it into the FAQ here.

It will probably help some people out. I have used it like this myself.

Add a note that psexec.exe can be detected as a potential risk by various malware tools but this is only due to the nature of the program. ;)

I like to think I know a fair amount about computers... but how do you map something to a drive letter?

It requires the server to support WebDAV.

Then you map it like a network drive.

Right click My Computer, or Computer, and choose map network drive.

Wow I feel stupid. Thanks for the tip, though! I always wondered what that menu option was for. :-D
