I've been working with AOL and MS techs, but to no avail....
For some reason, my Internet Explorer has just stopped connecting, even though I'm able to surf via my AOL 9.0SE connection. I'm running Norton AntiVirus. When I open IE, it seems to get short circuited to my home computer host file 127.0.0.1, and then I get the usual "Page Cannot Be Displayed". I've checked my Hosts file, and that's the only entry.
Please see my HighJack This file attached.
If you can help, I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I've already run SpyBot Search & Destroy, without any findings.

    THANKS for your reply! :)

I checked off all the lines you suggested, ran HT, and here's the followup log -- looks like some of the line(s) are persistent!
I even went into the registry and deleted the R1 listing that includes the proxy server ending in 7212, but it showed up again after I restarted my machine!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Internet Explorer
    1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
    2. In the Address box, Delete the IP address of the proxy server.
    3. In the Port box, Delete the port number that is used by the proxy server.
    5. Under Proxy server, click to deselect the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
    6. Click OK to close the LAN Settings dialog box.
    7. Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.

    Thanks!
I followed your directions, and the only one that was applicable was to remove the check in the box about using a proxy server.
However, I neglected to tell you that I use a DIAL-UP connection, and I assume that the LAN parameters do not affect it.
Regardless, I followed your directions, and tried IE again, but it still goes right to 127.0.0.1 and then displays the blank page.
Just in case, I ran HT and have attached my log file for you.
    Thanks again for your help!

That IP aaddress is the localhost which is your computer. That's why you're getting a blank page.

Follow the directions for Running WinPfind by OldTimer.

    Post WinPFind.txt when finished.

Thanks again for your help! :)
Sorry it took me a bit to get this done. Here's my WinPFind file attached -- it actually only took about 10 minutes or less to run.

There is no malware in your logs, and since IE6 seems to be the only thing that won't connect; then the problem is confined to IE6.

You may want to post in the Software Forum with this problem. You'll get excellent help there.

Could I just uninstall and reinstall IE6 and reasonably expect to solve this problem, perhaps?
I'll also check out the other Forum you suggested. And thanks again for your help!

You can't uninstall IE it's so heavily intergrated into XP you'll break the OS. You'll need to reinstall SP2.
