Either XP sux or I'm Just Quick to judge

does ne 1 have ne idea why my computer makes crackling noises wen im playing music with winamp or wmp, i am using ms win xp pro,awesome altec lanseng stereo spekers w/ subwoofer (no problems with them, hooked 'em up to other things and they sounded great) sound blaster 16 bit pci soundcardi also tried this soundcard with wimdows 98se and I did not have this problem, it bassically does this when i minimize or maximize any of my windows or wen i drag my mouse ptr over any links in ie explorer, ne ideas, suggestions, remedies, or any critisizing? It's probably bad sound drivers, try downloading new ones...

 

Well, I just tried that and.... It is still doing the same thing, It's kind of annoying lol Do you have ne other ideas?

 

How much RAM do you have, what kind of processor, etc?
System load can make these things happen.

Well, I did as you said and I updated my chipset drivers (VIA P4x400) and If u need to know I have 512 Megs DDR PC3500 and a P4 2.4Ghz/533Mhz And he thing with this that really confuses me (I forgot to mention this earlier) is that i have had this card working properly without the crackling on my previous install of xp pro, and i cannot come up with an explanation for this. Can you?

 

O and another thing is that when i move my pointer or use the scroll on my mouse it crackles, the sound gets distorted,and it speeds up and slows down, if this helps...

 

It could be a hardware conflict, where multiple devices are using the same IRQ. (Especially since the Via 4in1 driver didn't help)

You could try the following:

1. Uinstall the SB16 in the WinXP device manager and shut down the machine.
2. Check your motherboard manual and find a PCI-slot which doesn't share IRQ with any onboard devices.
3. Place the SB16 card in that slot.
4. Boot into WinXP and it should redect your SB16

 

Im not implying anything but the RIAA has messed up many mp3 files on kazaa and such.

 

If they worked fine before then they're gonna keep on working fine...

 

Well, thank you all for your help, I have never had this much trouble with anything computer related, I tried all of your suggestions (and no this is music recorded from my own cds, ive had bad experiences with p2p filesharing) and nothing seemed to work, so i just decided to say screw it and i upgraded :-D, as major attitude basically said, but in a nice way sb 16 just sucks!!! I totaly agree now my audio sounds a lot better now that i upgraded and i am satisfied TY all so much mecroneo
