    PC still very slow and hard drive is nearly full (wasn't before this happened). Only have about 9% free space despite deleting many files and programs.

    Could not get RootRepeal to get past "Locked to Windows API" in C:\I386

    Other logs attached.

    Thanks!

    Hi there. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in my next post. :)

    Information regarding your HDD
    I am not seeing any malware in your logs now, I think Combofix must have dealt with whatever was afflicting your machine, however there are some non malware items we can address:

    1. Please ensure before we move on that MGTools.exe is directly on your C Drive and not anywhere else like the below:
    2. AVG Free 9.0 -- You complain about PC slowness, avg is bloatware, and will hog resources.

    3. MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 <--- if you use IE at all, I would suggest that you update it.

    4. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall the following out of date java:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 16
    5. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    a-squared Free Service

    FileLook::
    c:\program files\EZ_Wizard.exe

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\smrgdf.exe

    Folder::
    c:\program files\iolo

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet003\Services\vsdatant]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    6. Now reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    7. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    8. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thank you! At one point, I unloaded the Sygate firewall and decided to just use the Windows firewall while I worked on this. I decided to try Outpost firewall and it didn't work. kept saying a driver didn't work or something. Could no longer get on the internet at all. So I unloaded Outpost and now have no internet access of any kind (I'm at work now). Tried turning the modem on and off. Tried checking connections (both cables and in Control Panel). No luck. Ran the entire Read and Run Me First "protocol" again with no luck. And yes, I put MGTools where it belonged instead of where I had it when I posted this log. Sorry!

    Will try all this tonight when I get home and am in the process of unloading a lot of data to discs (CD/DVD burner is no longer working) so I can free up some space. May also try system restore if I get desperate.

    I do appreciate all your work on this stuff and will run your fixes FIRST in addition to trying a different AV software if I can get online and then will post the log(s) from this fix.

    Still having trouble putting logs here (problem mine). Still cannot get onto internet at all. ISP tech support finds we have no IP address anymore. I've tried to dump the firewall, check boxes in control panel>network connections, etc but not a budge.

    DVD RW software also not working. Loaded to a floppy 3 1/2 and took to someone to load for me, but there was some problem. I will try again at work on Weds. Have to find a computer with a floppy drive to do it.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Kestrel, thanks for your help, but I'm not going to be able to post these logs. I've finally been able to copy them, but the only other computers to which I have access have the drives disabled so we cannot upload anything.

    I'm going to have to take our PC to someone to get it fixed and then maybe it will connect to the net from home so I can load them. That will likely be weeks. If I am ever able to do it, I will post them here.

    No problem, I will leave the thread open so you can jump back in if need be, but be aware that time will have passed and I will need you to run all of the procedures again. Take care.

    2 of the logs were corrupt and would not load,
    getunkey.txt and newfiles.txt. I can try to run them again if necessary.

    Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

    cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
    ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

    and attach the newfiles log. :)

    Is this machine now able to connect to the internet? If not I'm afraid there's nothing I can do for you as it is not my area. You will have to try posting in the networking forum. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    thank you Kestrel. I really appreciate all your time and trying to help me with this! Will do this last bit of clean up you recommended and hope for someone to be able to fix this IP issue.
