:confused Ok, well recently I found out about Linux and researched them. I find that Elive suits my needs a lot better so I decide to install. I boot up elive in my cd drive and choose my language, etc. and when it looks like it's finally about to install, after picking my choices, the screen turns black.

I've waited but nothing happens. I decide to try again and the same problem happens :( I even replaced my Cd drive with no success. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

If you are patient this is the best way for a person new to Linux to install.
See the Tab marked "Request FREE CDs"

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu

You will be pleased with 8.04 Hardy Heron, I use "Edubuntu"
I am not easily impressed but 8.04 made a very favorable impression.
In fact I think it is the system to push me over the top and dump windows into the vaccume.

Good Luck, Linux it is well worth the effort to learn.

    ps choose "workstation"

Is there an option to choose Check CD integrity, when it boots.
There should be if you ordered the cd, run it to check the cd for errors.

You may have burned a bad CD as this looks like a beta.

Also there are Elive Forums that may answer your specific troubles.

Or you can install ubuntu, add Enlightenment as a window manager and after you are ready wipe and reinstall elive.

YES, I had the same problem with a Linux Mint Live CD! I am a rank newbie with Linux and found it very frustrating. I almost gave up on Linux, but I am tired of making King Gates rich, and putting up with such bug-ridden software. After playing with it on different PCs, I came to the conclusion that the CD itself (not the CD drive) must be bad. It wouldn't install or run as a Live CD. I refused to give up and bought Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. It is great, and I am inspired to go on with Linux. Hope this helps you!:wave

Elive and Ubuntu are two separate items.

Like Texas and Oregon are seperate, but still part of the United States.

Enlightenment/Lightbox/Fluxbox are alternative ways to access a desktop.
