Email "attaching"

I am trying to send an email through Mozilla T'bird/AT&T Uverse.
It has a short message and three moderate size pictures with the body.
When I cue sent, it gives a message it is "attaching" and the status bar just does its imitation of the Eveready Bunny and keeps going and going...
I did not set the email up as an attachment. I send mail like this often with no problems.
I tried stopping and resending, but same results.I tried sending this with a different account, same results.
I started sending this, then set up this posting, edited errors, and the email is still being attached.
Any help would be appreciated

Just out of curiosity, I saved the email as a draft.
Went to the drafts folder, pulled it up and sent it right out. No problems sending this way. Why I still do not know.
