I have an insteresting problem. When ever one of my branch managers sends out any email with an attachment there is one user that the attachment does not come thtough to. This is true for any attachment, but the main one being sent is an excel file. Any one else the manager tries sending to gets the attachment with no problem. Everyone has the same security settings on the server and his local security settings in outlook express are not set to block anything.

I have tried deleting his account from the email server and re-creating it just to rule out any corrupt files and deleting his account from outlook express and re-configuring it.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Does the email show up at all? Does it show up but with the attachment stripped out? Does it show up with attachment but the attachment doesn't open?

Just trying to narrow down the problem here. :)

Sounds more likely to be a problem with the receiving computer than the sending one, if you ask me...

Seems to me it is a security ''problem''.
The receiver probably has high security settings.
As excel-files may contain macro's, the attachment will be automatically banned.

    Are you using a (SQL)server?
Check the settings on the (SQL)server for the specific user.

Sorry, should have given a little more there.

The email shows up with no attachment. If it is sent to multiple poeple everyone will get the email except this one person. I can send an email and they recieve the attchment with out a problem, which is confusing me.

I have watched both the sending user and recieving user just to make sure no stupid mistakes are being made on either end. I have checked the security settings on the recieving users outlook, I have set it to low security just to make sure it is not blocking anything, but I was sure this wasn't the issue as I can send an attachment with no problems.

What boggled me even further is that when a local email program blocks an attachment normally the attchment shows in the email, you just can download or open it. When the email arrives there is no sign that an attachment was ever there.

We are using a cobol email server, which I can't stand, but not my choice, so no SQL settings to work with.

    1. Open up Outlook Express > Tools > Options > Security and change the security setting from Restricted to Internet Zone and hit "Apply".

    2. Look on OE's menu, Tools/Options/Security tab and uncheck the box, "Do not allow attachments......" and click Apply.

    3.
If the mail was sent from Outlook or Exchange using RTF format then OE
cannot find the attachments. OE does not understand Outlook's RTF format.
Ask the Outlook user to please send using Plain Text or HTML, not RTF.
If they are sending through an Exchange server it is also possible that the
server has been set to convert all messages to RTF.

In addition to Matacumbie's excelent advice (I bet it is the RTF thing, actually! :) ), I would check any security software on the sending/receiving computer, try turning email scanning/wormstopper/whatever off for a while, see if that helps. Alot of that software checks for "worm like" behaviour, which can cause strange issues if they somehow get improperly "Trained'.

    Good luck! Weird one!

Thanks for the advice all. I was sent out of town for a few days, but I will give it a try today and get back with you.

    Thanks again.
