Email Problem: Trojan.Agent?

Comcast sent me an email stating inpart:

"...Comcast has determined that your computer(s) have been used to send unsolicited email ("spam"), which is generally an indicator of a virus."

They directed me to scan my computer for viruses and change my outgoing email port to 587.

I am running Norton Protection Center 2008. Norton's scan detects no virus's.

I changed the outgoing email port to 587, but I still cannot send email. When I return to the email account settings I discover that the outgoing port has changed back to port 25.

I have run all of the procdure you recommend in your guide. The only item found (by Malwarebytes) is Trojan.Agent. Malwarebytes reports that it removed it.

The problem persists.

Attached are the logs from MGTools and Malwarebytes.

I'm not seeing anything in your logs that might be the cause...you run or log into a network?

You may not be able to change ports as long as NOrton Protection Center is running...have you tried after disabling it?

I might suggest that you download a diff. email handler...Thunderbird comes to mind...set it up, but do not import anything from your other email program.

Make it the default program....and disable the other one in your firewall program.

Tell me what happens.

The culprit was Norton's. When I disbled it, I was able to make the port change without a problem.

You are not the first to recommend Thunderbird. I will be taking a long hard look at it in the near future.
