Is there a program that is like outlook or thunderbird?

Both those programs are horrible. I don't understand how people can tolerate using them other than the fact that web interfaces manage somehow to be worse.

A few years ago my Microsoft Outlook program crashed in the middle of an email message and consequently I lost everything. There was a brief 'error' type of message which said the program is not responding and to close the program but when I did, afterwards I could not get the program to start again then in a flash <poof> everything stored on the program was gone - all of my emails, my calendar info, my contacts, etc. all gone!

After that incident; rather than using either Outlook or switching to Thunderbird, a friend suggested that I use the POP Peeper program, which is a much simpler-to-use email notifier that allows users to easily access, delete or save, store as well as reply to all of their email accounts - Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. Although Pop Peeper is actually a so-called "notifier" program; which of course is not the same as the somewhat more complicated versions of Outlook or Thunderbird (in that Pop Peeper is not exactly a complex business and personal e-mail management tool and calendar software) nonetheless, I have found Pop Peeper to be a very easy and useful program for my e-mail management related needs.

After the Pop Peeper program is installed and set-up with your e-mail accounts, a small icon rests in the taskbar and it can be configured to easily notify you whenever new e-mails are received.

If you want to try it out, the download is available here at Major Geeks at the following link: POP Peeper 3.8.1

Personally I agree with you in some ways but I have gotten comfortable with Thunderbird. What really makes me happy though is the feature set. It's almost a must that the email program can load my messages as soon as they come in and maybe notify me. Thunderbird has a good UI and it's pretty powerful. Most email applications include TONS of settings. Thunderbird does also. Oh well.

    Here's some worth alternatives.
Opera has a built in email client
    Windows Live Mail
    IncrediMail
    Pegasus Mail
