End of My Tether - No Sound But everything Apopears Up to Date

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

I've been trying to get the sound back on my computer since upgrading from VISTA (arghhhhhhhhh) to the much more dependable XP.

All the drivers appear to be up to date following about a week of installing/unistalling on the advice provided on other similar posts but while everything appears okay the computer is mute?

Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and my son'd who are desperate to play WOW with sound effects!!!!!!

Hi

As well as attaching the log as per Laura's post above, could you also tell us what if any devices in Device Manager have yellow ! marks next to them and just in case Everest doesn't pickup the Service Pack to your Windows what Service Pack is it at?

Or attach the log from Speccy as per the below.

Download the free, Speccy HERE then run Speccy and click File > Save as Text File, then attach the log as per instructions below (note: as Speccy also now lists more data it likely will have your Windows licence serial key also in the log, so look for Operating System and under that Serial Number and delete the code and Save the log)

Sorry for the mistake guys I'm new on here.

Attached is the everest report.

There are no yellow exclamation marks ! in device manager.

Hi

As Acer dont support XP with drivers for your model PC, you may have to try a few out to get it working properly, but try the below

Do make sure your Windows XP is fully upto date, goto Windows Update and check and install any updates listed, reboot and continue with the below...

Install the Chipset HERE then reboot.

Then install the VGA driver HERE reboot and see how you go, it maybe the case that we will need to clean uninstall all of the Graphic driver files (VGA) and then install again, but try the above first.

I'm afraid it looks like a clean unistall is required as I have followed your suggestion and still no sound.

How do I go about starting over?

Hi

To re-install Windows XP from scratch you can follow this guide HERE (same process for XP Home or Pro)

As you have a new motherboard type and likely SATA Hard Drives you will need the SATA/Raid driver so that it can be installed at the start of the install process (use F6 when prompted). As you have an Nvidia nForce chipset the info is HERE on creating a SATA Raid floppy, if you dont have a floppy drive in the PC then you will need to slipstream the driver into a Windows disk and software to use is nLite and info HERE

Not an easy process as many motherboards dont fully support XP whereas the Vista install would be an easier one.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK

Tried this and notice that no value is attached to the Data i.e.

(Default) - REG_SZ - (value not set)

Grasping at straws here but might this be the problem?

Hi

Do you have a screenshot of that registry area? and is it in HKEY CLASSES ROOT, HKEY CURRENT USER etc?

Did you isntall the two drivers I listed in post #5 if not then do so and if so then follow the below and install as in the order listed

Install the UAA HD Audio driver from HERE then install the Audio driver from HERE, then reboot and test audio again.

Do tell us if there are any yellow ! marks in Device Manager?
