End of Windows?

    We are told that Win 10 is the last Windows version, so I had a look at its stated lifecyle, which common sense says should be indefinite. Not so! Mainstream support ends October 13 2020, Extended support October 14 2025.

    Have they let something out of the bag they didn't intend to? :eek

    I think it will probably be like OS X for Apple (X is 10, not a letter). They have stayed at OS X for 15 years now. They just increment it as so.

    10.x -> Major release, these will have finite support dates.
    10.x.x -> Patches/fixes/minor updates

    OS X is currently at 10.10.4 for official and 10.11 for beta.

    We are currently at 10.0.

    That makes sense, but the October 2020/25 still doesn't, not to me anyway.

    Mainstream support usually lasts for 5 years and Extended support lasts for 10 years from the time the version of Windows is released.

    Wait until there is a Windows 10.1 (not service packs but whenever MS considers it a different iteration) and you might see additional entries in the chart.

    Maybe they think the way we input and receive data will change before 2020.
