Engine3 dummy winidows

    I have been getting this nag screen "CL RC Engine 3 Dummy Winidow: PCM Service.exe Application error" and "The instruction at 0x1d1c9f55 referenced memory at 0x00000000 the memory could not be "read"

    My search tends to tell me it may be malware.
    I have completed all of the Read and Run me first but the hiJack this.

    I ran my installed Norton anti virus and it finds nothing.
    Spybot found 12 entries of Wild Tangent. I clicked immunize on this
    Counterspy found Wild Tangent low risk adware 92 objects.

    I have logs for all and will attach 3 now.

    Need your help to see what this is.

    Can you tell me what the application error is and is it malware that needs to be removed?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    This does not sound like malware to me, but let me make a suggestion. Run HijackThis and have it fix the below line:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCMService] "C:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exe"

    Then reboot your PC. Are you still having problems?

    I will do as you suggest. Let me say that this error message has only occured twice. Not a major nag now. Just wanted to prevent a major takeover.

    Okay let us know the results. Also do the below to remove some minor junk you don't need or want and to get updated to the proper Sun Java.


    Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    SearchAssist
    Sunbelt CounterSpy <-- we are finished with this trial program now!
    Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

    Note however, Viewpoint stuff does not always get uninstall when requested so do the following too.

    Run this ViewpointKiller to remove Viewpoint Media software.


    Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

    After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment


    Then make sure all the below folder have been deleted:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Robert Collier\Local Settings\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
    C:\Program Files\SpywareBot
    C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

    I will do as you suggest. I had tried to download Java but could not get it to start. I truely have dumb trouble knowing how to download from your URL links.
    But I have both of the last suggested and will tune up.
    Question: when i ran bitdefender it had me download an active X control pgm. Soft ??oin something like that.
    And Panda had me download asinit.cab
    Should I be concerned to uninstall them, if I can find them?

    You just click on the blue links and then download from one of the download links on the download page.

    No you don't need to worry about them and you cannot find them because Microsoft in their infinite stupidity made file in C:\windows\downloaded program files invisible unless you look at them from a Command Prompt or use another utility like: ExplorerXP

    I'm still waiting for the result from my first message (msg # 3). Please do not post again to tell you will do it. Just do it and then post when you have results to report.
