Over the last few years I have had about 6 Epson printers. R280 (3) R220 (1) Workeforce 710 & 615. All have had problems when changing the ink, 2 in fact would not accept any cartridges after the initial change. Two that I used for Cd/Dvd would not insert the disks. Am I having bad luck, or is this a common problem?

Most Epson printer cartridges use an attached chip that acts as a countdown timer for ink use. After each cartridge has printed a certain number of pages, the chip signals the cartridge is empty (regardless of how much, if any, ink is left in it).

If you're purchasing non-Epson replacement ink, the ink cartridges may not have new or reset chips installed (or it's possible you purchased genuine Epson ink with defective chips).

Devices that reset Epson ink cartridge chips are available on eBay. Just be sure to buy the resetter model for the series of ink your printer uses.

On the issue of the CD not loading, was it an older disc (example: a disc for XP or Vista you attempted to install with Windows 7)? No worries, just go to Epson's website and download the latest drivers for your PC - be sure to choose the right version (32 or 64 bit) if applicable.

Finally, most new printers come with at least a one year exchange warranty through the mfr,; some higher end models may have a longer warranty up to 5 years. If still in warranty, contact Epson. They will usually send you an advanced replacement exchange with a prepaid shipping label to mail back the old one.

    Hope these tips help. :)

I just spent $80 bucks for new high capacity carts after the included ones died after printing a few envelopes and a few pages. Really unacceptable! Now the brand new replacement carts won't work!:mad It printed nice when it worked but that doesn't mean much now. I'm waiting until I calm down before I break something that I'll regret.;)

I had the Epson RX 500 for 7 years and never had a problem with replacing ink. There couldn't have been a timer on that thing because I used only 2 black and 1 replacement carts of colors a year. The last 2 years or so the pics wouldn't come out good anymore so decided it was time to replace it with a Workforce 633 this past August.
:eek If you happen to break something augie, don't break the bank though. ;) If still under warranty take the darn printer back or will your printer work with regular capacity ink only? Now it makes me wonder if same will happen here at this end but it's still showing as having tons of ink left while having printed a lot of pages.

    @ gman863,

An Epson printer has a tray that holds the inkjet printable CD/DVD prior to printing on it. I believe the OP was referring to the fact that the tray with the disc in it will not load into the printer for printing onto.
