Erbistock villagers quoted £550,000 for broadband link

Villagers have been told it would cost them £550,000 to be provided with a broadband internet connection.

British Telecom's estimate included installing the infrastructure necessary to provide the broadband link for 80 households in Erbistock, near Wrexham.

But the residents have since been given a £50,000 estimate by another firm, Rutland Telecom, and they hope to be online by October.

BT said it was actively investigating alternative solutions for the village.

Alison Fletcher, 50, who was behind the community's five-year campaign to get online, said: "We can't get broadband in Erbistock because we're too far away from the BT exchange."

My note. BT (UK) suddenly get interested when another firm shows an interest. Funny about that.

One of the problems with privatising basic necessities like communications,no one wants to touch non profitable area's and in the same vein one of the benefits of privatisation someone can always do it cheaper :-D

I checked the censor and there's 400 people living there so at £50,000 it would cost each person £250 plus subscription fee's,not bad really:confused

If you want to live in the middle of nowhere and have all the benefits that entails I guess you have to live with the drawbacks too.
