    Hi,
    On behalf of brother.
    Win XP SP3
    Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz
    2.00Ghz 1.25GB of Ram

Pc suddenly starts with error message at start up "Microsoft Security Client. An error has occured in the program during installation. error 0x80070002"

We have been onto the microsoft support site which has told us to check for updates and we have and installed criical updates, however the error message still occurs.
Have tried the microsoft fix it but still the same.

Brother has uninstalled Microsoft security centre prior to this problem

Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks :confused

Did your brother stop MSE before he uninstalled it ??

Try downloading this and click "Forced Uninstall", then enter Microsoft Security Client the path, and uninstall. This is the Pro version, use this version, the freeware doesn't include Forced Uninstall.

    Hi

I have done as you suggested, downloaded the uninstaller, this tracks 26 files. I then press the "next" button and go to a page with files in red and black . This is where I am a little wary, at the bottom of the page it says "select all" and "delete" do I have to click on each individual file and then delete? or select all, and if I delete all will I be wiping important files from his pc??

Sorry to be so thick, but dont want to make things worse by deleting files I should'nt.

    Many thanks

Check only the ones in bold black letters.

Hey buddy, I won't disagree with any of your advice or the article you posted, I just gave advice as to what worked for me when I had the same problem.

Normally (I use an older version of Revo) the files are in regular and bold. I carefully open all the + and then check only the files in bold.
It is NOT SAFE to simply select Delete All!!! You will be removing parts of the registry that are critical and the computer may not boot!
Don't worry if you miss some or only want to remove a few to see how it goes. You can keep pressing the back button and getting Revo to find the files that still need removing. I normally do a moderate removal then when I'm satisfied I've removed everything found, I go back and try and Advanced removal.

    Hi Nick T and "falconattack"

Which is it to be?? select all or just the bold black letters to delete.
If I do the wrong thing is could be messy for me.

Glad of your advice but which?

I agree with plodr, that is exactly how I removed the files,, I checked and deleted all the ones in bold letters. Worked fine for me.

    Hi NickT and Plodr

Many thanks the uninstall went a treat, I did just as you suggested and deleted files in small groups and hey presto we've got rid of that infuriating error message.
I am glad that I checked to make sure which files I got rid of I was unsure about the select all button and was glad that I clarified it.

Its very good that you all take the time and trouble to help us "trainees", so big thank you and

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
