   Whenever I try to connect to the internet via dial-up on my Toshiba laptop (XP SP2) I get the error message "Error 633: The Modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly". Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.

   Thanks, but I have already been there. There is no Palm Pilot software installed on the laptop.

   Have you look in the running processes to be sure fax software isn't running?
   
   I'd also try a different phone jack and a different phone line, just on the off chance that what you are using is bad.
