So I keep what I've got in the Savage folder now and then go to this link and download server 1 or server 2 or both in the savage folder as well?

I am really sorry to keep asking questions, but this is all VERY new to me.

    Thanks again!!!!!! ;)

OK, You can delete the savage folder. The executable will create it's own folders

What ~pyrate~ means by the executable is that the drivers are packaged with an installer so instead of installing them manually we are hoping the installer will do it automatically. You will notice when it's downloaded that it is an exe file rather than a zip archive.

Download from either server and remember to save, (not open), the file, when downloaded double click and the installer should start.

Download is complete, do I run it or open it? (I'm retarted, lol)

Just double click it and it'll run

I'm sorry, I should have said run or open folder. (That box is still up)

(My daughter and her friend just walked in too, and they were talking to me about FOOD! So hungry now)

The download should be an exe file, just navigate to where you downloaded it, double click on the file and the installer will start, follow instructions and it should install your drivers

D'oh, I'm getting tired, if that option is still there then choose run, usually disappears after about 30 secs though. If it's gone do above.

OK, we know where we are now. That Microsoft Knowledge Base article I posted describes the problem and the fix.

If you have a working machine which I assume you do then either you can attemp the fix yourself, or someone else may step in and guide you through the fix which as I explained in a pm isn't as daunting as it might appear.

Otherwise we can both give it a break and tackle this tomorrow. We're six hours ahead of you. I will definitely be online at the machine by 6pm our time at the very latest, I'll pm you my email addy so you can let me know you're there and ready to go.

That will give you the chance to thoroughly study that Article and maybe get a list of questions together that we can cover before we start.

    Whichever suits :)

    That's perfectly fine... :)

Just curious, should I delete the new download? And also, would it work to go in to the recycle bin and put the original back or not? (I have no idea.)

But, I will read the tutorial and try to work on it, when I get a chance.

No keep it, once we've applied that fix we'll need it to install the new drivers.

What's happening is that because of those missing or corrupt files anything you try to install which has these 16 bit subroutines will likely cause the same problems. Once we have our ducks in a row the fix shouldn't take more than 20 mins or so.

I know it's been a bit long winded but we've isolated the major issue and you've learnt about zipping files.

When it comes to computers it's vital to look on the bright side;)

I am happy to report that the patient survived the operation. Kudos to Karen13 for seeing the process through.

    OK

The fix was done by carrying out the steps stipulated in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article referenced earlier in the thread. Once that had been accomplished the new VIA Hyperion drivers were installed.

Lastly the new video card drivers were installed. The patient has been transferred to the Spyware Forum for a check up.
