I'm not actually sure why I was asked to "start a new thread" since there are other threads regarding this issue. As I posted BEFORE
when I try to do an "error check" what others refer to as their scan disk..I am getting the message: cannot open volume for direct access, scan is completed.
I do this at least everyt wo months and HAVE never had any problems. I always go to My computer-then c drive, then click on properties. I can do the scan for bad sectors, but when I try to do the error checking I get this message. I have seen dozens of complaints about this on goggle....as far back as 2004, and NOT one answer for why this is happening. I do not have ZONE ALARM, or any of the other spyware programs that are mentioned that cause issues with this. I have XP with service pack 3..and as I said I have had NEVER a problem until today. Exactly how important is it to run this error check, I only do it as a part of by -monthly maintenance. Is there any other program that can do the same thing? thank you:confused

I would like to answer your first question as I believe you are referring to this thread you posted in http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=160266

The reason you were asked to start a new thread is because posting in someone else's thread distracts from their need and causes confusion as to what instructions to follow. It is also considered "hijacking" of someone else's thread.

It's much better to start your own thread as it simply makes it much easier not only for you to follow as it pertains exactly to your problem, but also for others trying to follow the advice and indeed for those trying to assist you :)

Ok, I wasn't sure...in other forums if its regarding the SAME issue.....it stays in the THREAD thats already been started. Didn;t mean to HiJACK anyone's thread....just wanted to add my issue(which is identical) to a thread that was already started. Regardless, an answer would be lovely~;)

Do you have Spyware Doctor installed?

If you search for ikhlayer.sys do you find this in c:\windows\system32\drivers?

Do you have an XP CD? If so, this might work

Bo I do not have spyware doctyor installed ever, and the answer you offered is WAY tyo complicated for me to attempt, so if doing this error checking every 2-3 months isn't necessary I will just ignore it. However its hard to believe that their isn;t an alternative program that can do this feature. thanks
