my computer started getting slow and I tried to restart it a black screen comes up that says start in safe mode start windows normal and so on none of these work and then I went to system recovery and run the hard rive test it showed it failed and the error code hd521-2w came up. looked it up and found it at another site that said it was the hard drive failing and to replace it but wanted to get the advice from this site to know what it is so help would be appreciated

Generally speaking, if a hard drive diagnostic tells you the drive is failing and gives you an error code and says it's time to replace it, it usually means that the drive is failing and it's time to replace it. Personally, I'd stop using the drive completely until I got a replacement. Then try to image the drive to the new one, or at least try to copy any data off of it....

thanks for the reply , thats what I thought but wanted the expert advice from here first , the problem is that I cant get it to get to a place where I can back up my data , it will not start up at all every restart like , start windows normal , start in safe mode, last known good start and every other thing on that page just comes back to the same page . is there any other way I can get to my files, I have alot of pics I would really like to save

You don't keep trying to boot up a failing hd.
You get a new hard drive, install the OS, hook the failing hard drive up either as a slave or in an external case and then you grab the files you want through the new hard drive.

My friend had this problem and her computer is only 1.5 years old. Doesn't seem right.
