I have a bunch of old AVI files that I captured from my camcordered bout three years ago. I just rtied to view them, and they'll open in WMP but it's just audio- no video. It says "Error downloading coded".

How do I fix this? These files used to play in WMP. I'm sure it was an older version. The AVI files have not been changed.

    Thanks in advance,

If you right click on the file and view the properties it should tell you what codec's it is using. You can then search the internet for the correct codecs

On the Summary tab, it shows the Audio Fromat and Audio Sample Size, but not the codec.

Here is a link to the divx codecs, which should enable you to view AVIs in WMP.

However, I must recommend VLC Media Player, which has just about EVERY codec built in. I've never encounterd any video file this baby couldn't play without having to download any codecs, at all.

I would also recommend GSpot, the "codec information applicance" which will tell you just about anything you need to know on the subject of codecs.

    Cheers!
