Error gta sa

Hi all, I have an annying problem. I recently bought GTA SA for PC and it runs really good! Everything's smooth. I use steam to play it. However, randomly after anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, I get an error dialog, and my game freezes instantly. Computer is not frozen, just the game. after I press ok, my game vanishes. here is an example error:

Any ideas on why this may be, or how to fix it?
P.S. I have a 2 year old dell inspiron E1705 with 2 GB of ram.

Did you actually buy it from Steam, or did you add it to the client after install? Do any of your other games have this problem, or only San Andreas?

If you're always getting an error that mentions memory, download memtest86+ and run it, to rule out the possibility of a bad memory stick.

 

I bought it from steam. Legit. This is the only game that has said this to me! and this is the only game i want to play now! Ive tried everything from updating windows....installing IE8.... to updating all my drivers and even switching the 1gb Ram cards into each others slots!

It just crashed in 5-10 minutes!

 

is it possible you are having a heat issue? can you monitor your video card temps and cpu temps while playing? try using hwmonitor while playing to see how high the temps are

Have you gone to your Steam library and verified the game cache?

If you don't know how, go to the library, right-click on the game, and pick Properties. Then go to the Local Files tab and click on "verify integrity of game cache". If that doesn't work, uninstall the game, and reinstall it.

 

Hey thesmokingun, i did what you said and my intel core solo was at 41*C when the game crashed.

and mimsy, i did what you said, by verifying the integrity of the cache files. It said it was all good. anyway, i reinstalled it. verified it again. everything checks out. except the game crashes haha

 

are you running xp?
btw, what was the gpu temp when it crashed?

 

well i figured it out. it was something about my sound. in my game settings i turned off SFX and radio sounds so the game was mute, and then i never crashed! then, i turned off dirext x sound accelerationg and tunred on the SFX in game sounds. In about 5 minutes, i could tell the sound messed up because looping sounds were made that didnt go away. however, it did NOT crash the game =)
I im 90% positive that the sound looping was the cause of the crashes. Now i have to find out how to stop that looping error from occuring... even though i have the latest driver from dell for my audio.

 

Try just reinstalling the driver... the installation might have become a bit messed up.
