    I cannot boot into normal mode. If I run msconfig and mark normal boot and then hit apply the boot.ini adds the /safemode extension. If I unmark that, apply and then go back to the general tab the Selective startup is marked again. I have tried to boot in normal mode and cannot.

    Your help is greatly appreciated. Here is my boot.ini file.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    THANKS

    Do you have System Restore enabled?

    Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration? (repeatedly tap F8 while it's booting)

    Do you have a Windows CD to do a repair?

    So, have you tried a repair or not?
